Overview

The YHT-390BL Home Theater System has full 5.1-Channel Surround Sound with Top Class Features such as HDMI switching with 1080p Video Pass Through, iPod and Bluetooth Compatibility, CINEMA DSP, Compressed Music Enhancer, and Four SCENE Buttons. Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. Two volume-setting functions are including on this receiver for additional convenience. The YHT-390BL receiver is capable of delivering large amounts of reserve power for accurate reproduction of the high-energy peaks that are especially prevalent in digital audio sources. This system features dual HDMI inputs and one output that can handle all HD format including 720p, 1080i and 1080p so you can connect two HDMI sources, such as a DVD player and a high definition set-top box, and enjoy the highest possible quality with an HD display. You have a choice of eight unique Yamaha CINEMA DSP surround programs to bring out the full audio potential of your entertainment sources. Excellent Mid-range Surround System in a Box
I had my old system's power supply fail, probably due to the power surges resulting from Hurricane Ike. I read through the reviews from one of the consumer magazines and decided that I did not want an all-in-one system with a DVD player. Why buy a surround system with an outdated DVD player when Blu-Ray is already taking over anyway? I also wanted the long-term flexibility of stand-alone amplifier. This requirement eliminated many of the inexpensive models.

Wow! Even better than I'd expected
I decided to use this system for audio only. So I connected my DirecTV HD-DVR, Oppo DVD player and AppleTV DIRECTLY to my TV's HDMI inputs instead of to the Yamaha receiver. Then I connected the audio outpputs of those devices to the Yamaha.

installation was easy, even though I found the user's manual a bit daunting.

The sound quality of this system is just terrific. Clean and crisp, with wonderful surround effects.

very happy newbee
this review is for all you guys that are new to this H.D. 1080i surround sound hi-teck bla bla bla. I was looking for a nice set of speakers to go with my panasonic flat screen with blue-ray player.after i read a whole lot of reviews i setteled on this one because it only had one negative as far as i could see,and that was the speaker wires.so i bought some 18 guage wire and was ready when it came to the house.I thought it was a snap to hook up and the set up procedures for the amp were easy to .... Nice For The Price - But Buyer BEWARE!!
The Yamaha YHT-390BL does have truely great sound for the price, but I feel that it is also misleading. When I did my research for a home theater center, I wanted to find a receiver that could handle HDMI. I had an older Samsung that was a component receiver. Although component is a a type of HD, it is not as spectacular as the HDMI standard. I had read that some of the newer receivers are HDMI compatible.
